It's so important! And yet, many struggle with getting to sleep and staying asleep. Perhaps it's the incessant stream of thoughts that like to run a marathon through your mind the moment your head hits the pillow. Or maybe it's the noise in the neighborhood, body pain, or illness. On the other hand, sometimes it's just good 'ol insomnia... flipping through the latest Netflix Originals, or scrolling through Instagram, while snacking on whatever leftovers are around. Yeah, I see you...
Well, here's a few tips for you in case you, or someone you know, aren't catching those Zzzz's!
Let's start with the positioning of your bed, where is it? Is it under a window, facing a bathroom door or another door? Check out how it's positioned. Is it a tall bed, or low to the ground? Is there carpet, tile or hardwood underneath it? Does it feel comfortable and supportive to your body when you lay down? Take a look at your sheets. Are they stained? Are they ripped or torn anywhere? How do they feel against your skin?
You may not think that all of this matters, and you may be so use to your bed that you don't even give it a second thought. Believe me, it makes all the difference to a good night's rest! When you have a comfortable, supportive mattress, and your sheets and comforter allow your skin to breathe at night, this will keep you from tossing and turning, or over-heating and chucking your covers on the floor, only to awaken a little while later freezing! We've all been here...
A great tip is to lower your bed if it is up high, you want it to be as low to the ground as possible. Keep in mind that in many wise and ancient cultures they simply sleep on a pad on the ground. This keeps your body grounded when you sleep. It also makes it impossible to store items underneath your bed. All things are energy, and they have certain vibrations associated with them for various reasons. So, when you place items under your bed, you are also placing the associated chi under your bed, which can interfere with your own energetic vibration. Keep that in mind when considering storage options.
Aromatherapy is perfect for the nights that you can't get to sleep. Hey, you're up anyway, so why not put that time to good use? I will say this, if you have an idea in your mind, pop up quickly and jot it down! It's worth it. For one, you may not remember it in the morning, and two, it will let your mind be at peace instead of keeping you up with more thoughts surrounding your idea. If you write it down, you can tell yourself that you will come back and brainstorm it more in the morning.
Aromatherapy Diffuser LED Night Light
So, back to Aromatherapy... My Aunt taught me about putting Lavender Essential Oil on a tissue by your pillow, to help you get to sleep at night. I already love the smell of it, and if all you have is a tissue, then go ahead and use this method. However, I recommend using an Aromatherapy Diffuser, as it will continuously disperse the essential oil, so that you are receiving maximum benefit from the healing properties!
Another thing that I found very helpful, was to put blue LED lights under the bed. I purchased two strings of blue LED lights and put them under the bed, keeping them on throughout the night made me feel as though I was floating on a cloud. I got the best sleep ever! Also, blue LED light is very healing for the body, so I was benefitting on multiple levels! It makes an awesome night-light, in case you need to get up to potty... but don't worry, with these tips, you should be drifting off to Lala Land in no time!
