Honestly, Just Being Honest...

"To Be Honest..." How many times have you started a sentence with those three words? What other way would you be? Dishonest? Oh, and I love this one: "Can, I be honest with you?" No... please go right ahead and tell me a stream of lies! Have you ever seen the movie "The Invention of Lying"? If not, check it out! It's a good one. It is a comedy with a really great message. It makes you reconsider life, and what it would be like if no one lied, ever. What if lying just wasn't a thing? What if it didn't exist?

When was the last time you lied? Was it a big lie, a small lie, a medium sized lie? Did you go back and tell the truth? If so, how did you feel? If not, how do you feel right now? Remorse or regret perhaps. Wishing that you had done things differently. Not all lies do immediate damage, and some seem downright harmless. For example, calling out of work. Many people tell lies to get out of going to work, and that would be an example of a small lie. Still a lie, none the less.

There are ways to be private about personal information, without lying. Let's say you were up all night with a crying baby, or arguing with your significant other, and all you want to do is stay curled up in your bed with your swollen eyes and safety blanket. You may feel inclined to call your boss and say you have the flu. Sometimes people make up stories to make their situation seem more intense or more likely to garner empathy. It would be more appropriate to say something more along the line of "I am not feeling well today, and I won't be able to make it in." That is the truth. You are exhausted, mentally, emotionally and physically, because they are all connected. So, in that moment, you truly are not feeling well and need a day of rest to rejuvenate.

Just by giving a bit more thought to how you can approach a situation with honesty, you can begin to shift your life. Your relationships will deepen and become more real. When people lie to one another there is a veil that keeps them from truly seeing who the other person is at their core. Many of us have built up walls, and lies are told to maintain those lies. This is something that would best be addressed with a trained professional. However, doing a bit of introspection can go a long way.

The reason I am bringing awareness to this issue is because in today's society honesty is not cherished. People say anything and get caught later. This leads to a lot of turmoil in careers, relationships, friendships, etc. It's time to become more conscious of our actions and intentions and to be accountable for the reality that we are creating each day. I started saying #realvibes as a disclaimer for the fact that I must tell it how it is, because I think it is wrong to B.S. people. "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." And So It Is.

...Just Being Honest.
